Until upgrading to WP2.7.1 I was using Keith Desouza's Upgrade PlugIn 1.2.2. Do I understand that WP now has its own Automatic Upgrade built in ? And because I had to deactivate Keith's PlugIn to successfully upgrade to 2.7.1, it would suggest Keith's PlugIn is no longer useable and I should permanently delete it ?

Yes, pretty much that plugin is not necessary, but more importantly, seems to cause problems when it is activated.
Deactivate and delete it.

I feel good I contributed $$ to Keith's plug-in while it was still needed. He did a nice job.
And now I feel good too that auto upgrade is an integral part of WP. One less plug-in to manage and worry about !
