   I keep getting this error message when i try to upgrade automatically.
   does anyone have a suggestion?

   Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-2.8.5.zip
   
   Unpacking the core update
   
   Could not create directory: /public_html/wp-content/upgrade/core
   
   Installation Failed

   i think it has to do with the folder permissions on your http://ftp.. try raising the permissions.

   that's what i figured. do u know ...is there a particular file I need to change the permission on?

   /public_html/wp-content/ maybe?
   not an expert sorry.

   I know i had to change mine so it worked...
