Why can a forum like SMF use an internal mechanism to update, yet WordPress relies on the user to delete some (but not all files), upload new ones and then run a script?
I find it rather annoying and don't understand why WordPress can't be as nice and easy as well.

I was prompted to upgrade today and I found a mention of this auto-update plugin. It's not quite as nice as having a built-in upgrade system but it is less of a headache than manual FTP uploading.

Looks as this was given the OK by Matt for 2.6. Maybe we'll see it completed and in there, if not for 2.6, by 2.7.

Is it already understood how this WP 2.7 feature is going to support localized versions of WP?
Tried to search/google for more information, but could not.
