   Hi,
   I have two questions.
   1) Is there a way that I can create the Excerpt automatically but just pasting the Full Story?
   2) Is there a way that I can limit the character count of the Excerpt?

   I know that 1 is already implemented in 1.3. Takes the first x amount from your post.

   A tricky (maybe impossible) plugin idea could be to generate the excerpt from guessed keywords (most frequent words, excepting a predefined list containing "the, of, it ...)

   Yes, Ozh, that would be quite tricky. I think i'd rather be patient, than do something overadventurous. LOL

   In all versions of WP since 1.0 (I believe) if there is no excerpt one is faked from the first X words in the post. Is this what you were looking for?
   http://wiki.wordpress.org/get_the_excerpt
   has a "fakeit" argument that specifies whether an excerpt is made up or not if one doesn't exist.
