Auto update issue (6 posts)

I have 8 sites. They all had the "new version, update now" thing on top.
At this time my sites are on 3.7

From all I read about the auto upgrade, was that starting 3.7, that I would never EVER have to worry about updates.

I read on a blog (a WordPress forum moderator) entry that it is for minor updates only? (3.7.1 3.7.2 3.7.3, etc...) and not 3.8 3.9 and so forth.

I worried (you know, how you should have your site up to date), so I clicked the and "updated now" link.

Again by all the reading, I thought that the upgrade from 3.7 to 3.7.1 would of been instant. Did I misinterpret? Are updates gradual? How long should I of waited? I don't want to wait 3 days with a non-up-to-date WordPress. Hackers are evil people.

Also, how come the auto update is not for 3.8 3.9 and so forth?

Are you using an English version of WordPress?

I think it can be, but it's not by default. You can change it to be if you want to.

The auto-update should be pretty fast - and by now yours should have happened. You could use this plugin to see if your site/server is configured so that auto-updates can happen:

@WPyogi - I waited a couple of hours. fear set in me and I clicked the update now link instead of waiting for the WordPress butterflies to do it automatically.

Confusion was if ALL WP installations got updated right away or staggered (I think that is the word). I am assuming they are staggered (via your answer).

    Andrew,

If I change the setting to be fully automatic, wouldn't it revert to not fully automatic on 3.7.2 or whatever version is next?

Yes I am using English version.

My answer was based on Dion's (one of the Core devs) post in this thread -

If you haven't seen it, there's more info here too:
