I did the automatic update for 2.8 and my dashboard looked fine, made a post but could not enter any tags(very strange), then I published the post.
Next day went into my admin and the dash board is all messed up. It looks nothing like the previous one.

I the exact same problem. I am now trying to restore both my database files and wordpress folder files to 2.7 version because I have spent days trying to resolve this issue. I tried ftp'ing the files as the auto upgrade seems to be having huge issues especially if you did not disable every plugin first (which I did not do). Read the forums and you will see a lot of issues with this release.

I have restored database and files. Still says I am running 2.8 but things seem to now be working.
