I have a CMS-based website that has WordPress linked to it. I use the WordPress side as a news/info blog.

I want to create a section on my main page that links to and automatically updates with the three most recent stories from selected categories.

What would be the best way to achieve this? Would it be through RSS or can someone recommend something else?

You might also look at this article: Creating_a_Static_Front_Page. Think of your “main page” as the static front page in this context.

I’m using the code from Creating a Static Front page and am getting this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/timeands/public_html/torchwood/phptest.php on line 133

relating to this line:
$news=$wpdb->get_results(“SELECT ID,post_title FROM $wpdb->posts

where am I going wrong? I’m copying and pasting from the code on the document page.
