    Hello,

I have never been able to use this Auto Embed feature. I started out with version 3.5.1, and upgrading has not helped. If I used [embed] code, it works. I have tried deactivating video plugins I have and some others, but it was the same. It was not working even before I installed all kinds of plugins anyway . . .

When I copy the Web address for the video, only the URL text shows up on the Web page.

    Example: http://wp.me/p3A49F-4I

I am doing OK with a plugIn to supplement, but it would be nice to have the function. Does anybody have any idea what might be the issue?

    Thank you.

    Yes. Have I missed anything?

WordPress will automatically turn that into a YouTube embed when the post is viewed. As of 3.5, Auto-embeds are automatically enabled and there is no setting to turn them off in the WordPress admin pages. Prior to 3.5, there was an “Auto-embeds” checkbox in Administration > Settings > Media SubPanel.

You can also opt to wrap the URL in the [embed] shortcode. It will accomplish the same effect, but does not require the URL to be on its own line and the “Auto-embeds” setting to be enabled. It also allows you to set a maximum (but not fixed) width and height, like so: [embed width="123" height="456"]…[/embed]

If WordPress fails to embed your URL you will get a hyperlink to the URL.

This is pretty much what it says. And, it is not giving URL link either, come to think of it . . .

So you are trying to embed YouTube videos, yes?

    Yes.

On the test page (Link above), the first line (YouTube address) is what I get when I copy it as instructed, and the video you see is what I get for using [embed] code.

    Try just using http://youtu.be/uiz80CuDN8Y
That’s the url you get from the Share link on YouTube.

    It did not work.

It worked perfectly for me. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks.

That’s a bit too much for me to do, as I am not advanced. I am afraid I may mess up something. I may as well start all over . . LOL. I will still do what I can and see if it works. I have another testing site with the same theme, so I could try the theme there.

But, as I said, since I first installed 3.5.1, it has never worked. Upgrading has not helped. I did try deactivating some plugins, not all because I did not mess up anything, and deleted all the inactive ones.

If no luck, I’ll just have to continue using plugins and [embed] in the old fashioned way.

I appreciate your help. I will report back if any of the trouble shooting worked.

I have the same problem and no other plugin is causing it. WordPress just creates an iframe with src=”http://…”, but it should be https.

I am closing this thread as resolved. But the problem persists, and I have the same problem with another WP site where I am one of the guest authors.

I believe this feature is not working properly, and would like it to be looked at seriously for the future versions.

Thank you for all your help!

I believe this feature is not working properly, and would like it to be looked at seriously for the future versions.

We’d need to be able to reproduce the problem on a default theme with no plugins – so let us know if you want to work through that as esmi posted above.

    Hi WPyogi,

I can reproduce this with certain elements.

Currently pasting in a straight YouTube/Video/Soundcloud link works fine. As soon as I switch over to using shortcode eg: [youtube #####] or [youtube http://youtube.com/####%5D I get the embed code returned.

With certain other services, such as Twitter, I get just the URL returned regardless.

    Example:
    In editor (text view)
    Output

Running no plugins and the 2013 theme.

Update: I’ve just noticed that the Twitter embed problem is being investigated.

That’s good but can you reproduce this in your own topic?

Per the forum welcome please post your own topic. This one is already marked resolved and there can be many reasons why you are having this problem.

    Okie dokie. Apologies.
