Auto Change Color Depth on Image Upload

Hi everyone,

I know this might sound crazy, but I’d like to be able to choose or change color depth for any and all images that I upload – preferably to 16-bit.

I’d like to be able to somehow set this up so that all images are automatically changed as they’re uploaded, or at the very least some way for me to change it after an image is uploaded. Ideally WP would spit out an additional image that is 16-bit, similar to how it makes different sizes and a thumbnail of your image, and then you can select which one you want.

Obviously I could do this with each image by hand, but I don’t want to! So I’m wondering if anyone knows of anything I could edit in the WP source files that could do this, or if there is a plugin that could help me out.
