Fyi, I updated to 2.2.2 and it works fine on my blog. See this post, for example, with audio embed using the shortcode -
    http://www.nevillehobson.com/2013/04/03/fir-interview-steve-rubel-chief-content-strategist-edelman/

It didn't work with 2.2.1 but does now.

Updating to 2.2.2 should indeed solve the problem. We've removed the Flash player from the Audio shortcode, and it should now use an HTML5 player.

If you still experience issues after updating, could you post a link to your site and to one of the problematic posts so I can have a look?

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

The audio player work with Chrome and IE but not with Opera and Firefox.

Could you copy the shortcode you used in that post, and paste it here so I can try to reproduce the problem?

It's also worth noting that the Audio shortcode will be deprecated once WordPress 3.6 is out, since it will include an Audio shortcode (#23282).

The previously noted problem was caused by player.swf returning a 404. Removal of the flash will cause problems with browsers that do not support html5 audio.

Possible solution is to return the code to 2.2.1.

@Han-earl Park The player was removed for security reasons. Rolling back to 2.2.1 won't help, but you could indeed add the player to the plugin as explained here.

@renatorm Thank you! We'll have a look at the problem and I'll post again here as soon as we can solve the issue.

@Jeremy Herve: thanks for the info. Can you let me know what the security concerns were (in case I decide to host the flash player on my server)?

I'm still having no luck with the audio shortcode. Here's the shortcode I'm using:

    [audio http://authnerd.shep.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/06-Golden-Heart.mp3

(for some reason this forum software is removing the final square bracket after ".mp3" above; it's there, and there in the edit window, but not showing up on-screen. But it's there.)

    and here's the post:

    http://authnerd.shep.ca/?p=12

I do get a player for about 0.2 seconds, then it flips into a "Download File" link.

In Chrome, the "Download File" link points back to the post address (http://authnerd.shep.ca/?p=12) and not to the file.

In Firefox, the link points to the file.

    Both in Mac OSX.

@Han-earl Park The flash player was vulnerable to XSS.

@mattshepherd You seem to be using another plugin (MediaElement.js) to add the Audio player. Could you see with the plugin author about the issue?

    Hi Jeremy,

The other plugin has been first deactivated, then deleted from the Plugins folder. I'm not sure how it could now be interfering, unless it has buggered up the WordPress code to a point far beyond my ability to fix it.

    EDIT:

Given the imminent audio shortcode in WP 3.6, I'm just going to nuke this thing for now and start over with 3.6 when it arrives.

    @Jeremy Herve, earlier you said:

It's also worth noting that the Audio shortcode will be deprecated once WordPress 3.6 is out, since it will include an Audio shortcode (#23282).

Will the current shortcode in posts still play audio if a blog is updated to 3.6?

@Jeremy Herve: many thanks for the clarification and all your help.

fwiw, Jetpack 2.2.2 audio shorcode works perfectly on my sites: ex 1, ex 2.

    Thanks.

Rest assured, we'll make sure that Jetpack is fully compatible with 3.6.

I'm having the same problem with audio in version 2.2.2, http://streetdose.com/new-music-nicki-minaj-feat-lil-wayne-high-school-2/

Is there any fix? Please help. Thanks.

@anthonyon The player seems to work properly on my end in Chrome and Safari
    http://i.wpne.ws/OEJZ

However, as @renatorm reported earlier, you will experience issues in Firefox.

We're working on that problem, and I will post again here once we can solve the issue.

    Here is the situation today:

    • Chrome natively supports: .mp3, .m4a, .wav, and .ogg.
    • Safari natively supports: .mp3, .m4a, .wav, but not .ogg (which will display a download link).
    • Firefox natively supports: .wav and .ogg, but not .mp3 and .m4a (which will both display a download link).
    • Opera natively supports: .wav and .ogg, but not .mp3 and .m4a (which will both display a download link).
    • Internet Explorer natively supports: .mp3, but not .m4a, .wav, and .ogg (which will all display a download link).

What formats a browser chooses to natively support is entirely up to the browser’s developers, we have no control over that.

Until last week, we have given the Flash audio player precedence, fallen back to the browser’s native player when Flash isn’t available, and then fallen back to the Download link when the format is not supported by the browser.

With the Flash player disabled, we are giving the browser’s native player precedence and falling back to the Download link when the format is not supported by the browser.

Whether it’s via an embedded player or a Download link, all of your viewers will be able to play the audio files.

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. It all seemed to work fine until the recent Jetpack 2.2.2 update. On my end it doesn't work in any browser (FF, IE, chrome or safari). I'm running Windows 7 (Home) with Flash 11.

    Hello,

We appear to be having a similar issue on the following URL:

    http://positivelygoodforyou.com/

Underneath "As tasted on BBC Radio" is where it should display.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Worked with no problem up until 2.2.1 and since has broken. Currently on version 2.2.2 and still nothing.

    Thanks.

@Seth The Audio player seems to work on your site. I assume you've managed to solve the issue by yourself?

Yes. There was a conflict with the Root Relative URLs plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/root-relative-urls/

I discovered it because it was also messing with the Carousel galleries. I deactivated that and the audio seems to be working now. Thanks!

I have similar problems but mine is a bit different, i run a music blog, and the theme has shortcode for audio player but i realized switching themes would be hectic so i just put the songs in the post directly, it is rendering quite alright but not playing...

Take a look at this post, the audio player up is the one from the theme's shortcode which plays fine, but the one beneath is the audio player embedded in the post which does not play

please help!!!! What do i do!!!
