Attachments: if no toplevel .htaccess, link to file url is wrong [2.04] (1 post)

In version 2.04, if you do not change the permalink option from the default setting, then adding an attachment using "link to file" generates the wrong URL for the attachment.

The URL generated is to the toplevel directory, not to the wp-content/uploads/200x/nn/ directory that contains the attachment.

It appears that the toplevel .htaccess file (generated as a side-effect of setting permalink options) is necessary to get a valid attachment URL.
