Assign restrictions to categories, then assign categories to attachments

    I have a site that hosts lots of attachments uploaded via the Media tab as usual, these attachments have one or more categories (enabled via this method).

    The site also have three user roles:

    Board members
    Service techs
    Other
    (of course in addition to the anonymous/non-logged in user)

    I have successfully been able to hide the specific categories from the roles that should not be able to access them, however, the media attachments are still being visible to all roles.

    How could this be remedied? And if the solution is non-trivial, how much would expect it to cost if we were to sponsor development of such functionality?
