I recently installed the plugin WP Symposium to use as a forum on our site.
I have about 4 different roles or 'groups' that I want to assign users to. Some users will be part of more than 1 role/group, but in the profile settings you can only assign 1 role per person. I've searched the plugins and Google and can't find anything that can assign more than 1 role/group to a user.
Does anyone know a plugin or work around for this?
Thanks!

AFAIK, you can only assign one role to a user. You must create a 'combination' role/group that reflects the capabilities of all the other roles involved.
This can lead to a very large number of roles if you have very many combinations.
That is a major design flaw for wordpress. What is the reasoning behind only allowing 1 role per user? That makes user management very hard. I'm working on a site where we have around 100 modules a user can have access to. Each with their own capability. This makes it very hard to manage which modules a user has access too. I think I'm going to have to create a seperate role for each user to accomplish this. That makes no sense.
Because that's how the core role mapping works., You can customise it to your heart's content using a role management plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-role-editor/
