• I notice on

    livingroom.org.au/photolog/

that the person site is a review site of cameras but all they do is link to other review sites and take snippets of their review to make a review for their own site?

are you allowed to do this as long as you link back to the site in question?

  • Depends on where you live. In the US, that would probably fall under the fair-use doctrine.

very cool.. so your saying its ok then.. like to quote another site.. say about 5 lines of text and link back to them

It also depends on how you want to run your site. Sure, copy and paste and link, might be “OK, but not how I’d like to run mine.
I’d at least add some of my own comment.

All I was saying is that it could be legal, but it depends on where in the world you’re at. Also I’m not a lawyer; what I wrote above is just my opinion and I could be wrong. If you’re really concerned about this; then you should:
    1. Check with a lawyer.
    2. Maybe check with the sites you want to copy from.

Another way to look at it is “is it worth it?” I would say no. While you may be able to have a successful site – and indeed generate income – by doing this, what exactly would you be adding to the information available on the internet? Not a lot.

I’m not a fan of sites that simply group previously-existing information on another page. That’s what search engines are for.

Dare to have your own opinions (even if they’re wrong).
