• Hi,

We are redesigning our website and moving it to a new template on WordPress. Once it goes live, the URL will be the same as our current site. If we had Google Analytics tracking codes on all the pages on our current site, do we need to add those to our new site or was the code transferred to the new site when we migrated everything to the new template?

    Thanks!

  • Are you using a Google Analytics plugin?

    I do not believe so.

So you added the Google Analytics’s code to your themes templates? If so, then the answer is “No” – this code will not transfer if you switch themes.

There are 4 most likely ways the tracking codes are placed:

    1. directly in theme files – which isn’t good and doesn’t meet “good pratices” – in this case the tracking code will not be transfered

    2. through the admin dashboard but within theme config – in this case the tracking code will not be transfered

    3. through the admin dashboard but theme is based on some kind of framework which has a place in its config to add tracking coded – in this case tracking code will not be trasfered either unless the new theme uses the same framework: then the tracking code sometimes might be transfered

    4. via some kind of plugin – then you probably don’t have to worry about it.
