I was wondering if the following wordpress theme is safe/ok to use:

    http://sight.wpshower.com/

I understand that themes in the WordPress Theme Directory have been checked and inspected. Do I run the risk of having malcious code or a site with bugs if I use the above wpshower theme which is not in the WP theme directory? I really like the design of this theme. Is there any other theme in the directory that is similar? I cannot seem to find one. Thanks in advance for any help provided. It is much appreciated.

I’d like to know the answer to this too…

Generally, it is fine to use themes not in the Theme Directory. Sometimes they aren’t there *yet* and take time to show up. Other times, the designers didn’t submit it.

The best thing to do is to educate yourself on the theme code. Things like checking for PHP functions like base64_encode, JavaScripts that seem out of place, etc. You can also do Google searches on the company to see if there are reports of their themes being malicious.

I would strongly recommend testing any non-repository hosted Theme using the Theme Check Plugin.

This Plugin will check the Theme for any malicious code (primary importance), and will also test the Theme for code obsolescence, quality and functionality.

Thanks a lot Chip Bennett for the “check plugin”!
