Are spam bots registering to be notified of new content? (4 posts)

On all my Blogs I'm noticing increasing numbers of "people" registering with .ru email addresses such as DeTpeenonow - telmloate@mail.ru and nonsense names such as Preowsdoort. I have one called sex-master-gb at botmasterbot@searchengineshome.org

Do bots register or are they not able to because of Captcha? How do you tell if it's a real member or not and should you delete them?

I don't have a spam problem because of Akisment and WP-SpamFree but I'd like to know how many members are genuine.

I just had anypetaipse@gmail.com & telmloate@mail.ru sign up for my site. You can usually tell by doing a google search on their email addresses. If 'stop forum spam' is the first link that pops up under their name, then it's pretty safe to say they're up to no good.

There's got to be some kind of plug in that we an add, like that one that MySpace uses to make sure you're a real person making posts/comments on people's profiles. It's annoying, but sure beats having to deal with a new bot registering every day.

After doing a quick search, I found the following plugins that may be useful...

    reCAPTCHA
    Register Plus
    Sabre

    Good luck!

Thanks. They don't do any damage because they can't get any spam past the spam filters but it's annoying when you can't be sure which are genuine members.
