Are menus going to stay in WP 3 after beta?
-
I’m a little confused about the future of the new core menu functionality.
I read through this and can’t decipher if they’re definitely in or out:

I guess it’s my own fault for rushing into a beta for a new site development assuming that the menus feature would be around to stay, but it certainly seems like a hotly anticipated feature which will cause a lot of disappointment by not being included.
Obviously if a feature is causing issues and that’s going to delay release of other items, then I can understand why it would be put on the back-burner, but thus far I’ve been really impressed with the implementation of menus and the only issue I’ve encountered is that there’s no option to disable target=”_something” in the outputted HTML, causing XHTML validation failure.
Anyway, just thought I’d throw out a post to find out if there’s a definite conclusion on whether menus will be in 3.0 or not.
Cheers,
Alex

I believe it’s up in the air and undecided for now. But the talk indicates that if it’s not in with the 3.0 release then it will be available as a plugin and then merged into 3.1 when the code is more stable/complete.
Did see someone mention the plugin option, guess that should keep things ticking over if it comes to it 😉
I assume the menus stuff is still in the later beta releases for the time being?
menus stuff is in beta 1. Guess we’ll see if it’s still in beta 2 later this week.
I’m on Beta 1 at the moment on a development site. Have to say that Beta 1 has felt extremely stable so far. Looking forward to seeing Beta 2 (and hoping for the menu functionality to be maintained!)
🙂
A!
andrea_r, the changes there look great. They cleaned that up nicely.
Looking forward to the beta 2 🙂
