are catergory pages in categories

I have a page
http://www.website.com/something/post-name

In my theme i have built category.php so that when i navigate to
http://www.website.com/something/
a relevant page is returned for the category something.

My question is,
Can i “ask” if
http://www.website.com/something/
is in category something?
