   Could anyone shed some light as how do you think Mark created his Archives page?

   Hard to say - could be 'hand coded'.

   Maybe see if you can live with some of these:

   Hi there MichaelH! Yes, his archives template is custom; well, pretty much like any archive that comes with themes. I do not think it is a plugin, just a crafty use of what WordPress offers.

   Still interested to see if someone could dissect it, as I like not only his archives approach, but the fact that clicking on a post date will take you to the spot on the archives to which the post belongs (on the timeline).
