I just set up a WP2.1 blog and noticed that when I click on the sidebar links for blogs in the archives or click on the links for blogs in the different categories, that the subsequent pages show the blogs inline and "INFULL". I want the archive/categories pages to only show the summaries of the blogs, forcing the users to have to click on the title link for each blog. I have looked everywhere in the admin area to find where I change this setting.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks and take care.

    It's not in the admin.
You will have to edit the archive.php template file of your theme and replace the_content with the_excerpt.
    reading: Template_Tags/the_excerpt and related tags.

If you don't have an archive.php template file, WP is using your index.php to display the archive listings. see >> Template_Hierarchy.
You can create one by saving index as archive.php and making the necessary editing.

Thanks Moshu! Also, is there a way to shorten the excerpt to less words?

What prevents search engines from indexing all these pages that have the same blog in them... like the archive, categories, index, and individual blog url... and causing duplicate content penalties?

Don't worry - everybody has the same WP files in the themes and we are doing quite fine SE wise :)

You could shorten the excerpts by editing a core file (I can't remember which one) where is set to 200 words, I guess.
Or, there is a plugin that lets you define the number of words:
