[resolved] Archive problem with "Path" theme and permalinks (14 posts)

Hi, I'm quite a newbie to WordPress.
I installed the Path theme on WP 3.4.2. and everything works fine but... if I try to set permalinks in any different way than default, the "previous" link of my monthly archive doesn't work.
Suppose I activated the year+month+article name option.
    From here
    http://www.xxxxxxxx.eu/2012/10/
I can move to page 2 if I click "next"
    http://www.xxxxxxxx.eu/2012/10/page/2/
But, from the latter page, if I click "previous" to get to page 1, I get a 404 error.
Quite obvious, because the link it generates is
    http://www.xxxxxxxx.eu/1011/10/page/1/
It's evident that "2012" shouldn't be replaced by "1011", but I have no idea where the function is which generates this link.
By the way, permalinks work with no problems with the default Themes, so I argue it's a theme issue...
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Revert to Twenty Eleven theme and see if it works.

Yes, with Twenty Eleven it does work, that's why I guess it's a template problem, but unfortunately I'm not free to choose the template, I was just told to use this one.

Download a fresh copy of the Path theme and replace the theme you were on and see if it works.

My copy of the Path theme is fresh enough :) , I downloaded and installed it just 2 days ago.
The problem should be in loop-nav.php, which generates that part of the page.

The problem should be in loop-nav.php

    Did you edit it?
In anyway, what is the harm in using a fresh copy considering that even the two-day old copy can be corrupt or incomplete installation?

No, I didn't edit it (I just edited the css).
I've just reinstalled it on a local copy of the site but the problem is not solved yet.
I suppose the problem is in that file because I see it creates the button tags "Previous" and "Next" at the end of the page.

I suppose the problem is in that file because I see it creates the button tags "Previous" and "Next" at the end of the page.

At the end of the page or posts? If it is the latter, that is how it is designed to work, I think.

Anyway, if you edit the theme, create a child theme, otherwise you will lose all modifications when the theme updates next or a fresh copy has to be replaced to troubleshoot.

It's just before the end of the "content" div: I have a list of October posts and at the bottom the "Next" and the "2" buttons: they work.
But when from page 2 I want to go back to page 1 (both with "Previous" or "1") it messes up the link.

There's definitely something wrong in the template, my local directory is called "wordpress342" (localhost/wordpress342) and the function renames it to "wordpress341" if I go back or "wordpress343" if i go beyond the 2nd page. Twentyeleven works just fine with the very same settings...

    Site URL?

    Here's the October link
    http://www.golagioconda.eu/2012/10/
I've just setted the permalinks as follows:
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/
so you can see what happens when you try to go back (or forth, if there were more than just 2 pages).

By the way, I just realized it's not a problem with archives, but with all the "previous-next" navigation buttons, also in the homepage. "Fortunately", I'm having this specific problem only on my local copy because of the directory name (so for example for page 5 the directory is renamed from wordpress342 to wordpress345!).

I had to reset the permalinks option to default this morning on the main site; maybe I'm going to create a test subdomain to see if I get out of this nasty problem...
