Try:
– switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Do you mean removing thesis altogether and reinstalling the plugin folder?

Just rename thesis to thesis-old in wp-content/themes.

hi again ive been trying lots of things like reinstalling WP but still cannot get apearance & user options to show so cannot change or edit theme or users but i do have other dashboard options is this a wordpress or thesis issue is there a problem with latest WP update and thesis?
Im also posting in thesis forum but its been a week and site still down feeling very low.
Have you tried a completely fresh install of WordPress?
