Apostrophes not showing up in page/post titles

Apostrophes and other special characters (like /) are not showing up in my page and post titles. They show up fine in the nav and in the <title> tag, but not in the page/post title. I can use &#39l, but that messes up my <title> tag. Any suggestions please? Thank you.
