I have a version of wordpress which was supplied by my webhost Earthlink. I would like to use the askimet plugin but it keeps asking me for my API key. I have followed the instructions from wordpress on how to find it but can't. I don't have a my account button in my dashboard. How can I get an API key so I can use Askimet?

Not knowing exactly how far you got;

"Note: If you are privately hosting an installation of WordPress, you still must register a WordPress.com account in order to obtain an API key."
"There you have it! If your API key appears to be missing from your User Profile, please contact support to have one generated for you."

I had a wordpress.com blog that was deleted when I moved it to self hosted wordpress blog. Now I need an API Key for using a stat plugin with my blog. I still have the old wordpress.com username and password, but when I sign in I can't find any API under my account column. The options I see are:
global dashboard
stats
tag surfer
my comments
edit profile
supportWhere am I missing the point over here?
