I'm trying to use You Tube for self-hosted WordPress blogs and it says I should have an api key but the instructions for where to find it seem to be for wordpress.com blogs. Do I have an api key? Where do I find it?

It's wrong. Leave it blank. Or fill it in with anything, doesn't matter.

You only need an API key for WordPress.com blogs, not for self-hosted ones. YouTube is mistaken about that.

For the YouTube link to work properly, you may need a plugin that will recognize the [youtube=xxx] format that youtube will post to your blog. This one works: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/youtube-brackets/
