  • I’m using WordPress on a WestHost server. When I tried to activate Akismet it asked for the API Key. When I looked for it on the User Profile page nada. Apparently, since my account login and password are on WestHost, WordPress Support doesn’t handle this sort of problem. I’ve since set up an account at the WordPress web site, but – of course – when I try to use that login and password on the WestHost server, it doesn’t recognize it. I even tried to copy and paste the API Key from the activation e-mail I received from WordPress, but because my login for WestHost and my login for WordPress are different, it didn’t work.

How can I get a WordPress API Key for a blog that’s hosted on WestHost? There must be a way…

Create a wordpress.com account but not a blog. You still need an account at wordpress.com to get the API code.

Ah ha! [insert flashing light bulb here] A second e-mail arrived some time later with the API Key. What I thought was the key in the first e-mail wasn’t. I have crossed another hurdle.
