API for externally hosted blog, and WP stats

    Hello, I run a WP blog hosted on yahoo. I’m able to run akismet using an API key which the plugin seems to have picked up automatically, and it works fine. However, WordPress stats does not recognise this API. Do I need a different API with it? Or does it not run at all on non wordpress.com blogs? If I do need a new API, how do I get one?
