Anytime I use HTML it all goes pear shaped!! (LONG!) (5 posts)

    SHORT VERSION:
    http://808.co.nz/wp/?p=143

If u highlight under the Post Title you will see the word "Overview" is there but does not show up - and appears further down the entry.

    LONG VERSION:
This is not a new problem for me - and only ever happens when I try to get tricky and use some HTML in my posts (via TinyMCE HTML).

I have seemed to always have this problem. With different hosts and different versions of WP.

So this is a bog standard install (this one via my hosts Fantistco) - default Theme. Basically, I create my posts - great - good. Then I want to say put a small table in the post. Sometimes I hand code the Table tags - sometimes I design the Table in DreamWeaver and copy the HTML into my WP post.

Then I start to get all sorts of problems:

#1 - If using even very small plain Tables (2 cols x 2 rows - no border) the Table wants to expand across the whole web page. (Appreciate this could be a Theme issue but I have tried various Themes.)

#2 - My most recent example is where I wanted to use some H1 tags - so I typed the text - highlight it - select H1 - looks good - preview my site and there appears to be extra returns above the H1 tag (so the post looks like it starts down the web page a bit) and the Title is "white"?

[Damn shame I can't upload an image here to show you what it looks like.]

In normal operation WP works fine - add in any HTML tags and BAMMO - weird things start happening and it drives me to drink.

I use different OS's (Mac and WinXP) - different browsers (Chrome, Flock, FF, IE, Safari). Am an intermediate web user.

There are no other errors in this install and it all appears just fine.

Long shot that anyone would read this far...but thanks anyhow.

    Respect.

    Update:

I am trying a 2nd install - just manual upload/install. It is possible that something went wrong with all my other installs. But I can re-confirm that standard Posts using the visual editor work fine.

It is just that as soon as I switch to HTML mode and add any HTML tags then things start going messy.

Switching back and forth between the visual and html editors will mess up your code. It's best to use only one or the other because these editors do things very differently.

Mmm - interesting - and actually you are prob right on the money!

Must be some combination - I had some posts where I created the page in DreamWeaver - then copied / pasted the HTML code direct into the HTML tab of WP. Mostly that's fine.

And then some posts were done in the visual editor of WP and then I have switched to the HTML tab and applied some HTML formatting tags.

Mmm - this is a pain in the proverbial. Could this be kinda bug...?

Is there any workaround other then the Rodney Dangerfield one? [Doc it hurts when I do this? Then, don't do that!]

It seems such a strange quandry.

    Respect.

First, there is no problem cutting/pasting code from Dreamweaver into WP. Second, at least for me, there is no problem switching back and forth between html and visual.

This is also not a problem for the majority of WP users. If your code validates in Dreamweaver, it will validate in WP.

The same old advice, disengage all plugins, switch to default mode, make sure you are using the correct files for the current version of WP. Try a different browser.
