Anyone have simple .php to check database? (6 posts)

I posted here a little while ago with a problem whereby when setting up WP I receive the message that I have already installed it, even though there is no database at all!! That problem hasn't gone away so ...

I wonder if anyone could supply me with a simple .php file that just looks for a named db and tells what it finds? Maybe that would help track down the problem, or eliminate a few potential origins?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Can you visit your own database on your site's server by using phpMyAdmin or some MySQL client? In less than 30 seconds you would know more than you would ever want to know about whether or not the database is there.

It's not - according to phpMyAdmin, but running setup I get a load of messages about already having WP installed, which makes me suspect some server-side weirdness. (In fact I can put random db names in wp-config and it says the same thing)

If, for the sake or argument, I can point at some simple code that "finds" the db which doesn't exist then I can ask my ISP to fix it. At the moment it's a case of blind guesswork!

Sounds like something funky with your host, I would contact them for help.

Matt - exactly, and the more obvious I can make it to them the more likely they'll look into it. From theîr point of view, right now it's a case of "a user has a problem installing a complex package", not "a user ran a simple php script and got an anomalous result".
