   I am getting massive amounts of spam. I would walk away from the site for a few minutes and receive ten or more spam comments. All of the spam points to domains that were obviously created for spam or phishing purposes. I thought of banning IP, but it looks like the person(s) is using proxies, as each message comes from different IP.
   Not sure what to do. But I think the overload is responsible for the strain that my server's cpu is suffering from.
   Anyone else getting bombarded? Any suggestions?

   Plugins.

   I use Bad Behavior, Akismet and Cookies for Comments.

   Interesting post. like you, last year was getting a huge amount of spam. Akismet catches most things, but trackbacks add to the problem greatly.
   Then I found Simple Trackback Validation with Topsy Blocker.

   Amazingly very little problems since, can never be 100% sure, but may be worth a try for you, good luck. Mike.

   bad behavior, akismet and reCAPTCHA seem to be doing the job. Thank You all.

   I just turned off trackbacks, personally. There were maybe three valid once over five years? Not worth it.
