• Hello, first of all I would like to thank you for creating a WordPress the most amazing blogging platform and cms system ever (my opinion anyway).

I was trying to install WordPress for a friend. He has already purchased hosting from a company. The problem is that the company doesn’t have a Cpanel all it has is ftp. Now when I contacted them about the issue they replied that it was possible to install WordPress though ftp only, although he did fail to provide mysql username and password. It is also notable that the company advertises mysql as one of the services provided.

So is it possible to install WordPress through ftp?

  • Yes ftp only will work. But you need the database or WP won’t work. If you have no cPanel or Plesk you need to have the company setup a database for you and give you the db name, db ser & db password.

As an aside if they do not offer any type of control panel for hosting or utilities especially for dealing with mysql db’s, they are not much of a hosting company. Would recommend finding someone else. WIth WP you sometimes need to be able to edit the database yourself and that will leave you dead in the water.
