I am looking for a good video tutorial for building custom themes. I have found a few but they seem to have been put together several years ago and I know wordpress has added a lot of features since.
On another note, I have been building Joomla templates for years and am very comfortable converting any design into a template but when it comes to wordpress it's very frustrating that I have to hard code almost everything instead of using modules like in Joomla. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to do things?

However video isn’t really the best method for explaining theme development and coding, so that’s probably why there isn’t a lot around. Text is still the best medium.
There are some books about theme development, but your best resource for understanding WordPress is probably the WordPress codex and its links to other supplementary resources.
