[resolved] Answers to custom fields questions truncated? (7 posts)

    Hi:

Thanks for a most excellent plug-in! Still trying to understand it some, but have it working. However, I have a couple questions, such as "Do you have a suggestion for improving this lesson?", and I'm finding that sometimes an answer in that field comes through on the "results" page with all the text intact, and other times it gets truncated, sometimes to a few words, and sometimes to just one. Is there a limit on how much text can fit in the box, and if so, can I raise it? I'd like for my users to be able to leave as much feedback as possible.
If there's a PayPal button to make a donation, let me know; you've definitely made something I'd pay to use, and I looked at a LOT of these.

    Hi GeoW97,

We're happy you like the plugin!

Regarding your question, the maximum number of characters is set to 255 but we will change that to unlimited in our next release.

In the meantime, if you are familiar with phpmyadmin, we can send you instructions on how to do that yourself.

If you would like to support our work, you ca use the link below to make a donation. We surely appreciate it!

    Hi:

OK, I've identified the source of the mysterious truncation: if there's a comma in the comment, everything before the comma gets lopped off. A period, a question mark, an apostrophe, those are all fine, but the comma seems to remove everything that came before it. Any thoughts on a solution for that one? And sure, if you could tell me how to raise the maximum number to unlimited, that would be great. I'm not all that experienced with phpmyadmin, but I have accessed it a couple times to do this and that...

PayPal donation on the way; thanks for being so responsive...

    Hey GeoW97,

We will fix these issue for our next release.
Until then, go to phpmyadmin and in the database that contains your wordpress look for this table: wp_yop_poll_logs

In its structure it has this field, other_answer_value. Click on the "change" button for this field (on the right hand side you should see a pencil shaped icon).

Once you click on it, you will see a table. Set "Type" to TEXT (now it's set to VARCHAR) and in "Length/Values" delete "255" and leave the field empty and save.

    Regards,

    Hi:

I tried every permutation of changing thins in phpmyadmin, and it's still doing the same thing. I don't have "wp_yop_poll_logs" in there, but rather:

    knu_yop_poll_logs

    and:

    knu_yop_poll_custom_fields

    and:

    knu_yop_poll_answers

I got in there and changed the values to both "text" under the "Strings" heading, and tried "text" at the top, in all 3 categories, and set the "length" boxes to empty, and still it's doing the same thing. A comma in the field deletes everything before it, and the length caps out at 255 characters. Any further ideas? I'm so close with this!

Thanks again for the speedy support...

    G
