I've searched here and googled and find similar issues, but none of the prescriptions seem to fix it for me.

I have WP installed in a sub directory called /blog/
I want to change from the non-pretty permalinks to something like /%category%/%postname%/

I've enabled mod-rewrite which fixed the 500 error i was getting, but now I get a 404 error.
I think it's something to do with the subdirectory. I've always had a domain redirect setup to direct from the base domain to /blog/ - maybe that's futzing with the permalinks? I've also got Dean's PermalinksMigration pluging activated, but it's not helping.

    Cheers

This has to do with your .htaccess file.. Id start there unless you already have...

Yeah, I've already gone through a bunch of directions for .htaccess that i've found, but unfortunately none of them have fixed the problem. Any specific hints about .htaccess?

Googling, this seems to be a pretty common issue (at least not rare, anyway).

Anyone have any specific ideas as to what's possibly going wrong?
