[resolved] another child theme not working - activation issue or? (13 posts)

    I've spent time digging into other lost-child topics, but haven't seen my issue. I added a child theme (to Twenty Eleven), appear to have created it properly, but it won't show the changes (changing menu bar from black to grey).

    I read somewhere that I should remember to activate my child theme, but when I do that the Twenty Eleven theme doesn't display correctly. It loses *everything* (except the changed menu color!) and looks like some strange non-any-theme site.

    Here's my child style sheet:

    /*
    Theme Name: Twentyeleven Child
    Description: Child theme for the twentyeleven theme
    Author: Deb Scott
    Template: twentyeleven
    */

    @import url('../twentyeleven/style.css');

    #access {
    background:#5b5c5e;
    }

    It's located in my directory "... themes\twentyeleven-child\style.css

    The child style sheet does show up in my theme editor menu; but the changed menu color doesn't show on the site.

    I am new to this and appreciate any help!

    You don't appear to have activated your child theme...

    Hi, Please see the second paragraph, above. When I do, the site looks horrid. Since it is a live site I can't "leave it like that." ;-)

    Sorry but we need to see the problem if we're going to try and come up with a solution.

    Ugh. Okay.

    This is what the description says in the theme dashboard:
    Version:

    Child theme for the twentyeleven theme

    The template files are located in /themes/twentyeleven. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/twentyeleven-child. Twentyeleven Child uses templates from Twenty Eleven. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

    I will go activate it now. (Ugh.)

    I'm not sure I see the problem. Your top menu background has now changed (it's grey instead of black).

    Well. Hmm. It's not as bad as it was. I think I just need to update the header, etc.

    Perhaps it just took a while for the host to re-generate stuff?

    Did you remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing the site? Are you using any caching plugin(s)?

    I don't know that trick about pressing CTRL and F5 simultaneously. Please forgive my ignorance, but what does that do?

    WP Super Cache is loaded, but deactivated.

    I see. I looked up" pressing CTRL and F5 simultaneously."

    Thanks for your help! This insight probably helps solve a lot of things. :-)
