altering width of posts / sidebars (2 posts)

I am trying to alter the template for entry and archive pages.
My main page displays two sidebars. I would like to alter the entry and archive pages to display only one sidebar, and increase the width of the entries. I am able to create the new sidebar with no trouble, but am having difficulty in altering the width of the entry.
I have tried altering the stylesheet, but this affected all the pages, which I do not want.

Can someone please point me towards an explanation which might be helpful, or give me some guidance in how to do this?

Here is a link to my weblog.

    Thanks

You need to use templates to display different styles on each page.

This doc explains how to make different categories use templates, the principle would be the same for other pages.
