Alphabet Photography site

Hello,

I have a client who would like a photo website where customers can click and drag (or scroll) to select various photos that look like letters and create a photo frame. I have searched and searched and am not sure what the best terms are to find this info. From what I found, it seems like most sites similar to what I am building are written with AJAX.

Does anyone have experience with integrating custom AJAX code into WordPress? I have someone who thinks they can write the code to make this happen, but I also need it to talk to a shopping cart (like Woo Commerce).
