    Hi there,

We'd like to develop a new WordPress plugin. Is it forbidden to insert a small copyright text below the plugin with a link to the website of the plugin?

Regarding: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/ (point 4 in second alinea) it is forbidden.

But regarding http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/guidelines/ (point 7) it is not forbidden: "Putting links back to your own site or to your social-network of choice is fine".

    What to do?

Is this on the front or the backend? Is the plugin release under GPL?

    Front-end. GPL2.

Then you cannot add a link to the plugin's site without also offering the user an option to hide that link.

Ok, thanks! And if we offer that option, it should be turned off by default I guess?

I don't think that matters as long as you provide an option to hide it via the plugin's options/settings.

Thanks! But how can we be sure?

BTW, You say 'Then you cannot add a link to the plugin's site ' >> because we have the GLP2 license. Would we avoid this issue by using another license?

  9. No, "then you cannot add a link" is in reference to the link being on the front end. Reread your first link: "The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a "powered by" link) without explicitly asking the user's permission."

Thanks Amy :). Now it's clear. But by default we may show this copyright, but we'll just have to create a setting to hide it?
