Support » Requests and Feedback » Allow the sorting of Plugin searches by rating and downloads

  • Bumping an important issue, easy to fix, ammounting to great user happiness!

This is a request for the enhancement of WordPress.org’s own plugin search results page.

For us new WordPress users, when trying to find a new plugin, it’d be nice to be able to search your website and sort those results by rating and downloads.

For example, searching for ‘excerpt’ shows these results:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=excerpt

There are several, and I’d like to sort these results by the highest rated ones first… then if I still can’t find one I like, I’d like to change the sorting to show them by downloads.

It’s a pain to page through multiple pages of results to find the best-rated, most-downloaded plugin in my results on the last page.

    [sigh]

  • I’m quite sure it’s on the incredibly long ToDo list.

Could it be the first item on the ToDo list? Imho the limited possibilities for searching themes and plugins is one of the very few drawbacks of WordPress. (I mean this as a suggestion, not a complaint)

I’m not a coder but isn’t it just a case of adding a ‘AND’ option? Or if it isn’t simple to implement, maybe someone can explain why?

Probably not going to jump to the top of the list, since the rating system can be gamed (people have already abused it) and the downloads list doesn’t actually tell you as much useful info as you’d think it would. It’s not a very accurate list of things.
