Support » Fixing WordPress » allow guests to post entries?

  • I am using the latest version of WordPress for a new project and I am trying to figure out how I can allow guests to post entries.

Ideally, I am looking for something easy to use like a form to record the “poster name”, email, entry and IP and allow me to approve each submittion for display.

I don’t mind hacking it in if there is a hack available.

    thanks

  • With the new Roles and Capabilities you might want to take a look at this plugin:

hmmm how do I use this to allow guests to post? I can’t seem to find that as an option either by default or with the plugin. It seems that this would work very well if the user is registered though.

Well thinking further, don’t know why you would need the plugin. Just create a User called “guest” with a password of “guest” and assign that user the Contributer Role.

Then publish the guest account information on your blog. Then as a Contributer, they can only write posts that become Drafts that you as administrator would need to Publish.

Thank you for your help Michael. I guess I am looking for something thats simpler. I may try hacking the comments file to do this. Well see. After all isn’t this how plugins are born 😉

I’m looking for the exact same capability. A form similar to the comments form where users can submit posts, without having an account.

If I create a Contributor account with public access, then users will have access to the profile of that account and I don’t want that.

    Any help is appreciated.

Has there been any progress on this? I’m trying to do the same thing:

Provide a form so ‘anonymous’ users can post an entry containing their name, email and a question, which will then be answered in the comments section by me. Sort of a blog in reverse.

Wow, i’m kinda flicking around the forum and I find that a lot of people are asking for the same functionality.

darthead and phoenixdown, I’ve just released a plugin that may be exactly what your looking for: http://thedeadone.net/software/tdo-mini-forms-wordpress-plugin-v01/ .. if you happen to be still reading the thread.
