Allow coments not showing

Hi
In my posts the allow comments has been ticked but its not showing up on the live site. Justed uploaded wp2.3.1 and alot of things have gone hay wire.
Also now missing under the post category the number of post on the right of the title are now not showing.

Any ideas?
