All my sites are a mess (35 posts)

    I don't know if this is just a coincidence but I've had nothing but trouble since updating to the latest version

    ceconn.com

    I am so upset I could cry. I've been hacked. This happened this morning. How could this happen? I've been to my ISP but they've done everything they could from their end. Still, look at it. It's a mess. Furthermore, it's affecting all my sites.

    Won't somebody help me?

    I can't even get to my admin pages. Nothing.

    Maybe the theme or a plugin isn't compatible. Can you get in via ftp? If so, then you may be able to switch to the default theme and / or disable all plugins.

    I disabled the plugins but it didn't make any difference.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    I do keep updating everything that needs updating but none of that matters. My sites are all a mess. The themes are not showing up.

    OK, I uploaded a fresh copy of Admin and Includes. Didn't make any difference. Besides, I have a hard time believing that plugins could affect all my sites. Here are some:

    canwetalk.ceconn.com
    food911.ceconn.com
    countrygarden.ceconn.com
    tapc.ca

    And so on.

    Now try the rest of the steps I suggested. This is the start of Troubleshooting 101.

    Do you have any cache plugin or a minify plug in deactivate theme

    There seems to be some hope. At least there is an error message. When I typed in ceconn.com/wp-admin, I got this error:
    W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/cecon46/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.

    What should I do now?

    FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) & delete the wp-content/advanced-cache.php file.

    One more thing are you using wordpress from directory if so check if index.php file in root has your folder name in line 17

    Ah man, now it wants me to delete object-cache.php. There was another one before and I deleted it.

    govpatel, "wordpress from directory". I'm not sure I understand.

    The index.php file reads: <?php

    /**
     * Front to the WordPress application. This file doesn't do anything, but loads
     * wp-blog-header.php which does and tells WordPress to load the theme.
     *
     * @package WordPress
     */

    /**
     * Tells WordPress to load the WordPress theme and output it.
     *
     * @var bool
     */
    define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);

    /** Loads the WordPress Environment and Template */
    require('./wp-blog-header.php');
    ?>

    Another thing. I don't know how to activate/deactivate a theme using FTP or even cpanel.

    Using ftp browse to wp-content/themes and in themes folder you will see your theme rename the theme folder by adding -hold at end of folder

    I've done that but it makes no difference. The page is blank. I tried signing in to wp-admin but it won't take my username or password.

    the hacker even left his calling card in the footer.php. In part, here it is.
    <?php/* * TeaM HacKer EgypT - a simple Web-based file manager * Copyright (C) 2004 TeaM HacKer EgypT <I0X0@HOTMAIL.COM>

    Can you believe it? I thought 3.3.2 was for extra security. Instead I get hacked.

    Then it was pure coincidence that it happened after upgrading. I guess it could happen.

    I just finished scanning again with a new product. My laptop is clean.
    I went to cpanel to .htaccess and found this at the bottom of the file:

    <Files 403.shtml>

    order allow,deny

    allow from all

    </Files>

    Another question re hacker. Would a hacker leave his name and email address like this one did? Seems weird.

    Is that anything? The permission was 644

    Oh yes - some of them do. They're like tags on graffiti.

    Well, yesterday I thought I'd try a restore to another date. Then when I tried to get back to you, I got a "missing file error - unable to find locale data files. please install"
    I was so rattled, I phoned Toshiba and spent around an hour with them. they had me sign in under another user. that was OK. Meanwhile my ISP sent me their login credentials so I could get into the wp-admin. Finally, I did. I don't know if that's any help because I don't seem to be able to upload additional themes. Everything has an x instead of a screenshot.

    I'm at the end of my rope. Any suggestions? The posts all appear to be there. I guess that's good. Should I upload a fresh version of wP 3.3.2?

    From your source code i see this url for your style.css
    http://www.ceconn.com/wp-content/themes/seashore/style.css
    using ftp check if you have this file in your theme folder seashore

    Normally clicking on that link I should see your style.css file and I do not.

    @esmi asked to rename the theme folder seashore so that default theme opens looks like have not done that to rule out a theme problem.

    I had done that before and then changed them back because it didn't seem to make a difference.

    Now, I've renamed all of them except twenty ten - again. However, nothing shows up in the themes directory. They seem to be there but all of them have an x where a screenshot should be. The twenty ten included. Furthermore, in the Dashboard I get a message ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.

    BTW, the style.css file is there.

    You are only suppose to rename your theme seashore not all them you should leave twenty eleven theme as is as that is default theme.

    If it still does not work then replace all files and folders except wp-content folder and wp-config.file

    I did. I left twenty ten alone. I have several themes in that folder and renamed them all except 2010.
