All images populating featured image gallery

    I am using the “featured image” option for a random gallery on this website:
    http://minnesotacreditunions.org/

    The problem: When I put images into the content of the page (posts or pages) these images appear in the featured image gallery. If I delete the content images from the gallery, I delete them from the media library as well, so the image in the content also disappears.

    If I create a draft page and place images I will be using in other content areas of the site, I can prevent these content images from kicking in the gallery on published pages. But really, I have to solve this problem.

    Anyone have any idea how I can keep content images from kicking into the gallery automatically? What’s missing?
