   Hey all, as I was editing the index file through the wordpress program, when I clicked the update file button it gives me the confirmation up top that says it was updated successfully, but then all the code in the box is deleted... I loaded up the index file as i would to test my changes and it was just a blank page...

   Luckily by hitting the back button on my browser i got the code back and was able to update it.. Problem is this happened about 4 times and im worried i will lose my work in the future when updating and not realizing it erased the code..

   Has this happened to anybody? Is there any documentation about this??

   this is definitely a problem because its happened to me more times since ive posted that, im surprized there's been no replies

   this has pretty much crippled my work as no matter how many times i try to make it work it just keeps erasing everything

   Well, as you've surmised, this isn't a common thing... I've never heard of it.

   Out of curiosity, does your host run mod_security? Kinda sounds like they do and it is clobbering the save.

   Keep in mind, that built-in editor isn't your only option. FTP to your site, bring down the file, change it and shoot it back up works too. In fact, most "modern" ftp clients have an "edit" option that makes most of that very streamlined and transparent to you. I'd suggest going that route instead of flattening your forehead against what is likely a server configuration issue.

   If anyone else has this problem I've found that it indeed was a server side problem, i had my .htaccess file at 666 and chmod'ed it to 644 and havnt seen that problem since
