When I started the wordpress on my page there was one category. I tried to add 4 more but still only one category is showing up. How do I fix this? I feel like I've tried everything!

When I started the wordpress on my page there was one category. I tried to add 4 more but still only one category is showing up. How do I fix this? I feel like I've tried everything!
The categories shows up on your page only when posts are added under thoose categories. Till then nothing apears.
