Akismet occasionally deactives on some sites

    We’re using Akismet in our Multisite Networks, and just again experienced something that seems to happen once a year or so…. Akismet gets deactivated from a large number of blogs.

    A server with about 200 sites on it only had 18 with Akismet active today, another server with about 75 sites was down to 4 with Akismet active. (Our users can’t deactivate this plugin themselves.)

    Any ideas on how or why this might be happening?
    Any ideas on how or why I could find out what’s happening? (It seems to be ONLY Akismet that experiences this.)

    Does Akismet ever deactivate itself if it has trouble contacting a server, the server thinks there’s an issue with our license key, etc?

    I’m at a loss here! Thanks!

    This has just happened again – deactivating from tons of sites on our network, but no other plugins are experiencing anything like this.

    Would akismet deactivate itself if the server decided our key was no longer valid, or we crossed a certain number of spam checks or anything??
