Akismet has been letting record amounts of spam through the past several weeks. Is there any way to improve this in the short term while we wait for a new version?
Please advise. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Posted 6 months ago #If I understand how Akismet works, a new version wouldn't do anything for stopping spam.
I believe it checks your comments against a list hosted elsewhere, the plugin interfaces between your site and akismet servers.
In the meantime, try adding this plugin if you are interested:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/That one stops the auto spam bots before they even get to post comments. Its been helpful for me

Other ideas? If I don't get a solution, I will have to turn off comments all together. :(

Posted 6 months ago #dsquared, it looks like most of the comments you're reporting as missed spam were actually caught by Akismet. Something is causing the Akismet result to be ignored.
There should be a History link below each comment. If you click on that for some of the missed spam, it might give a clue. Pop over to https://akismet.com/contact/ to send us the details and we'll try to get to the bottom of it. It might help if you can send a list of the plugins you have installed.
