   Hi there!

   Recently I've updated my blog to WP 2.1 version. Previously I had Akismet active and with a validated key, working like a charm.

   After the upgrade, on the Akismet configuration page, I get this message:
   "The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration."

   If I enter again the Key in the form and press submit, I get this:
   "The key you entered could not be verified because a connection to akismet.com could not be established. Please check your server configuration."

   So... what's wrong?! What server configuration should I check? It worked before!

   Patience - the Akismet site was down for a while.

   I have the same problem since I reinstalled my wordpress today!

   Is it still down right now!

   Me too, I've had the trouble since yesterday but my thread got buried. Hurrah for this thread ;)

   found that question really often without solution... then I had a look at access restrictions for akismet.php (ftp).. changed them from 644 to 744 and it validated the api key.
   hope it helps
