Ever since Akisment 2.5 was released, I've had problems on several WordPress installations with it marking normal comments as spam.
Disabling Akismet will stop it, but I really don't see that as a solution.
I'm about ready to go back to 2.4x.
    The following plugins are installed:

    Akismet 2.5.2
    Comment Timeout 2.1.1
    Login Lockdown 1.5
    My Custom Widgets 2.0.5
    Creative commons license widget 0.7

    WordPress version is 3.0.4

Akismet 2.5.x plugin introduced a history feature for each comment, did you check that to confirm that it was Akismet that was marking the comments as spam?

Yes.. in the history entry it shows this:

Akismet caught this comment as spam

As I said above, disabling the Akismet plugin stops comments from being marked as spam. Its really getting old having to mark legitimate comments as not spam.
Is there a table I can truncate to get rid of any cruft that might be causing this?

If Akismet is marking them as spam by mistake the best thing to is mark them as 'Not Spam'. That will send data back to Akismet so that it can learn from the mistake.

It may also be worth checking the HTTP requests being send to akismet.com to make sure they contain the correct data. If incorrect data is being sent as part of the API calls to Akismet then that could be the source of the reduced accuracy.

I have one person/ bot that keeps posting on my blog using the same email address, and despite me keep marking those posts as spam (even after 3 months)- Akismet still haven't picked up on it and listed it as a spammer.

Seems like we have quite opposite problems here.

@jeffreeeeey - gather up the details and drop us a note at akismet.com/contact/ and we can take a closer look.

I've been doing that.. I did more testing and it seems to have a problem with my domain name in the email. That seems to be the trigger. If I use naebunny.net in the email address, it ends up marked as spam

Captchas are a pain in the butt and don't do any good at all. Most captchas have already been subverted in one way or another. Even Googles.

  10. Derwood - Leave Akismet a note at akismet.com/contact/ with the afflicted email, and if you can, the IP and times you post that gets caught as spam.

I have ONE user who was, perennially, caught as spam. They were able to sort out his IP was on the blacklist because someone else on his network was a spammer. I get this more with people in Eastern Europe, alas :/
